Chairman’s Letter 20 July 2020

It’s been a busy time on the Town Council since my last update. Covid-19 along with our Clerk leaving us has meant things have been very different. We are now running our council meetings over a video conference service – so we are now back to dealing with the business of the town.

I am pleased to say that Sharon Henley, our new Town Clerk, is settling in well.

Unfortunately we have had a further resignation from the council as Janine Larner is unable to continue due to work commitments. This means we have three vacancies which I would very much like to fill. If you are at all interested in helping us work for, and represent, the residents of Northleach and Eastington then please let me know. It’s not always easy but it can be very rewarding – please come along and give it a try.

As you probably know, we have now re-opened the Play Areas with the necessary Covid-19 safety in mind. Signs detailing the new arrangements are located by the parks so please read these to make sure you are using the facilities safely. We will be formally checking the Play Areas on a weekly basis to make sure they stay safe for our younger residents.

Other activities we will be performing soon are planning for the re-opening of the Westwoods Centre (not as straightforward as we would all want of course), the annual cut and top of the Water Meadow, a detailed Tree Survey to make sure we are fully aware of the condition of the trees we manage and the start of a plan to plant additional trees in the town. Work also continues in the background to create the Green Ring health and fitness path around the town.

We decided that we will not be requiring the Cotswold District Council support to provide signage and a Traffic Regulation Order to support the re-opening of the town following the relaxation of the Covid-19 restrictions but we will be supporting any “pavement licence” applications that any of our local food business might apply to CDC for.

Unusually, we will be meeting in August this year as we have a backlog of business to conduct due to the unusual circumstances we find ourselves in. The next meeting is on Wednesday 19th August at 7pm via video conference. Please log in if you can – we all look forward to meeting you.
