Police and Crime Commissioner Election on Thursday 2nd May

Information from Cotswold District Council:

The Police and Crime Commissioner Election is taking place on Thursday 2 May 2024.

The election is for the PCC of Gloucestershire and is being run by the Police Area Returning Officer (PARO) based in Gloucester City Council.

Cotswold District Council Local Returning Officer, Robert Weaver will be conducting the election within our District on behalf of the PARO.

For more information on the elections process, please visit Gloucester City Council’s website where the notices, information for prospective candidates, lists of candidates and other key information will be held.

The list of candidates will be known after 4pm on Friday 5 April with a notice being published no later than 4pm on Monday 8 April.

Voting on Thursday 2nd May

Poll cards

Poll cards will be posted to all registered electors on 25 March.  If anyone does not receive their poll card or has changed their address, name etc they should re-register at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote . 

The same link can be used for residents who are not yet registered to vote.  The deadline to register to vote at this election is Tuesday 16 April.

Postal and proxy voting

Anyone wishing to vote by post can apply online at www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote . The deadline for making an application is 5pm on Wednesday 17 April.

Anyone wishing to appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf can apply online at www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote . The deadline for making an application is 5pm on Wednesday 24 April.

Paper forms are available by contacting the district council office.

Voter ID required

Anyone voting in person at a polling station will be required to provide an acceptable form of photo ID before being given their ballot paper.

Anyone needing a free Voter Authority Certificate should apply online by 5pm on Wednesday 24 April or contact the district council for a paper form.

If anyone is unsure of their polling station, they can check the details on Cotswold District Council’s website by entering their postcode.

Ash Die Back Works: A40 – Puesdown to Northleach Roundabout

Roadworks notice from Gloucestershire Highways:

What: Temporary Traffic Order to close the road for essential Ash Dieback tree work.

Where: A40 – Puesdown to Northleach Roundabout, Hampnett

When: 4-8th March 2024 inclusive (excluding weekends) from 09.30 to 15.30 daily.

On behalf of Gloucestershire County Council, we are advising you that we are due to be conducting essential works at the above location to remove unsafe trees infected with Ash Dieback.

Ash Dieback disease causes Ash trees to become unsafe; trees could shed limbs or collapse on to the road causing harm and injury. This work must take place for health and safety reasons, to protect road users and pedestrians, and make sure the carriageway remains clear of debris.

Changes to Parliamentary Boundaries in the Cotswolds

Press release from Cotswold District Council:

Changes to parliamentary boundaries across the Cotswold District to come into effect for next General Election.

The Boundary Commission for England has completed a review of Parliamentary constituencies which will impact communities in the Cotswold District at the next General Election.

Changes to the Parliamentary boundaries mean that Cotswold District will now form part of two parliamentary constituencies, rather than the one it currently does.

North Cotswolds constituency (70,915 voters) will be formed of Cotswold, Tewkesbury and Stroud district wards.

South Cotswolds constituency (72,856 voters) will be formed of the Cotswold and Wiltshire local authority areas and one ward (Kingswood) from the Stroud district.

The changes were approved at the end of 2023 meaning they will come into effect for the next General Election. The two-year review process included a number of statutory public consultations, where more than 60,000 representations were made.

The changes do not affect the boundaries for any wards for local council elections and will have no impact on council services.

Cotswold District Council’s Returning Officer and Chief Executive, Robert Weaver, said: “Although these changes alter the Parliamentary constituency that you live in, they do not affect which council area you live in, nor the services you receive. Your councillors will remain the same and it will not affect future council elections.

“At the next general election, all registered voters will be sent information saying which parliamentary constituency they are part of, and residents can look up their new constituencies on the Boundary Commission website.”

Every constituency must contain between 69,724 and 77,062 electors. The number of constituencies in England has increased from 533 to 543 and the number of constituencies in the South West has increased from 55 to 58.
