Chairman’s letter August 2020

Some good news at the town council meeting this month – we have two new councillors and a Town Clerk in place. Connor Williamson and Mark Ogden have joined as Councillors and will soon be bringing their varied experience of social care and charitable endeavours to bear to support the council. This means we still have two vacancies on the council and so if anyone would like to get involved to serve the town then please get in touch.

Following the resignation of Sharon Henley, the council has moved quickly to secure the services of a new clerk. I am very pleased to confirm that Pauline Rigby has accepted the role of Town Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer for the council. We would all like to thank Pauline for her dedication and ongoing commitment to this town and wish her well in her role.

Planning has started to re-open the Westwoods Centre. It’s early days yet and we have to make sure those of our users who wish to return at this time can feel safe. This means we need to make sure we know who wants to come back and to ensure that the building is made Covid-19 Secure. Regular users of the centre will be contacted soon but if you have an immediate enquiry then please contact Westwoods@northleach.gov.uk.

As many of you will be aware, the council has been trying to agree and implement a management plan for the water meadow for some time now. This is an important asset of the town and has the potential to become a unique area as it is relatively untouched and could offer significant wildlife benefits. There are varying views regarding the best way to manage the meadow and the river and so the town council is planning to survey the community to help us understand what you, the residents, would like the meadow to become. In addition, we have the outstanding task of confirming who actually owns the land each side of the river – which will become increasingly important as we develop a management plan.

The council meets again on the 16th of September (by video conference) so please join us if you wish. Details of how to join the meeting are included on the agenda, which you will find in the ‘What’s on’ section of the Town website. Hopefully, I can report that we have a full complement of councillors next month!

If you have any feedback or comments or wish to become a councillor then please make contact at clerk@northleach.gov.uk
