Chairman’s Update December 2019

Hello again everyone.

After a break for the Summer, here is a quick note about what went on at the Town Council meeting in November. As usual, all of the detail is in the formal minutes so these are the highlights:

We were visited by Simon Ellson, the new Neighbourhood Police Inspector based in Cirencester who gave us an overview of the efforts the police are making to keep Northleach a safe place. He told us that the police focus on 5 operational areas: child sex exploitation, missing people, domestic abuse, drug networks and serious organised crime – and encouraged all residents to report anything suspicious that they see. There is more detail in the meeting minutes – please take a look.

County Councillor Paul Hodgkinson provided an update on Back Lane surfacing, East End new speed survey, pavement repairs following complaints and a local library initiative with the Black Cat Cafe to replace the mobile library service. LATEST UPDATE: Paul has contacted us to say that work on re-opening the Old A40 should begin early Spring 2020 which is sooner than we thought.

At the KGV Trust meeting, we agreed to put together a project to upgrade the Pavilion starting with essential repairs and hopefully leading to some modernisation such as a new roof. Watch this space for any decisions made.

In the back office we are about to use the UK Government’s Contract Finder website to renew the grounds maintenance contract. There are no issues with the current service but, as this is by far the single largest contract the town council awards, we want to demonstrate to you that we get good value for money.

I attended a Councillor Surgery with Tony Dale and Paul Hodgkinson at the Westwoods Centre. It was well attended and a number of resident’s issues were raised which are being progressed. The plan is to hold three of these “tri-council” meeting a year. Watch out for the date of the next one.

All formal meeting minutes and other information are on the Town Council website www.northleach.gov.uk – please get in touch with the Clerk if you have any issues or concerns either by email on clerk@northleach.gov.uk, or you could come to the next Town Council meeting on Wednesday 11th December 2019 – 7 pm at the Westwood Centre. Until then, I hope this brief update is useful.
