In 1227 according to the calendar of Charter Rolls, Henry III granted to the abbot and monks of Gloucester a charter to hold an annual fair at their manor in Northleach on “the vigil, the feast and the morrow” of Saints Peter and Paul, and a weekly market on a Wednesday.
Today Northleach with Eastington Town Council operates and licenses markets in the town in accordance with the Food Act 1984.

How We License Markets
The Town Council has adopted statutory powers to license markets, but chooses to exercise those powers only within the heart of the Town. Any market operating within our town centre must be properly licensed to ensure legal compliance.
