Northleach with Eastington Town Council to adopt Public Toilets

Northleach with Eastington Town Council has resolved to take over the ownership and operation of the public toilets on the Market Place from Cotswold District Council, to help secure their future.

The decision follows a public consultation in which 67% of 254 respondents supported the option for the Town Council to take over the public toilets.

Councillors felt it was important to keep the toilets free to use for residents and visitors, and to safeguard a building the Town Council already part-owns.

The district council has agreed to provide a financial subsidy in year one of operation. We must now work closely with the council officers on the details of the handover, which is expected to be from April 2026.

New equipment has recently been installed that allows the doors to open and close automatically on a timer. Although the equipment has a coin slot, it is important to emphasise that the toilets are still free to use and there are currently no plans to introduce charging.

We’d like to thank Cllr Paul Hodgkinson, Cabinet Member for Health, Culture and Visitor Experience at Cotswold District Council, and David Stanley, Deputy Chief Executive of Cotswold District Council, for working constructively with the Town Council to help make this agreement possible.

Road Closure A40 Shipton to Northleach 26-30 January 2026

These roads will be closed (as per the attached plans) between 20:15 and 06:00 from 26/01/2026 to 30/01/2026 to allow for cats eye replacement work by Gloucestershire Highways.

Emergency and pedestrian access will be maintained.

Hours: 12 per week

Starting salary: in the region of £15.56 per hour (SCP 15) depending on experience

We have an immediate need for administrative support within the Town Council office. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a community-minded individual to play an important part in the effective day-to-day running of local services for the community.

This is a part-time, fixed-term position for 12 months. Subject to review, the role may become permanent. Responsibilities include managing allotment tenancies, cemetery burials and deeds, and general administrative support. This job is varied and hands-on, requiring travel around the parish to complete inspections, meet contractors, or attend meetings of the council and committees, which will involve some evening work.

This position suits someone who is confident dealing with the public, able to work independently, and well-organised with good IT skills. Experience of local government would be an advantage although not essential as training will be provided.

Changes to Bin Collections Christmas 2025

Waste and recycling calendar for Thursday collection day.

Residents are reminded of changes to bin collections over the holiday period.

Northleach’s usual “everything” collection day for recycling and general waste is a Thursday. Therefore, the last collection before Christmas will be on Thursday 18th December.

A food waste only collection is scheduled for Wednesday 24th December, one day earlier than usual.

The next “everything” collection will take place on Saturday 3rd January – but note that there is no green waste collection on this day.

Another food waste only collection is due on Friday 9th January – one day later than usual as crews catch up after the holiday period.

Normal service resumes from Thursday 15th January.

Green bin garden waste collections will also resume on Thursday 15 January 2025.

Free Winter Fun for Families this Holiday Season

The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme is back this winter to help keep children in Gloucestershire happy, healthy, and entertained with free activities and nutritious food.

Families eligible for benefits-related free school meals can register now for the winter HAF. Thanks to grant funding, the county council is extending these fun, enriching holiday activities to all children and young people through the Holiday Activities Programme (HAP).

Most activities will be taking place between Saturday 20 December and Sunday 4 January.

Booking is now open via the new Family Hubs system: https://familyhubs.gloucestershire.gov.uk/haf.

Families are encouraged to visit the website to create an account, add a profile for each child taking part in activities, and make sure emergency contact details are up to date. 

This winter, in addition to ticketed attractions, 41 providers will be providing activity sessions for children and young people across the county, helping to create memorable experiences for thousands of families who greatly value the opportunities it offers. 

This winter there are lots of great options to choose from including drama and science workshops, sports and games, art and crafts, music and dance, indoor and outdoor activities. Families needing extra support to choose, book, or attend HAF activities can get help from six HAF Community Connectors, one for each district.   • What: Temporary Traffic Order to close the road for essential Ash Dieback tree work.
  • Where: B4425 – Cirencester to Arlington (see letter and map for the exact location)
  • When: 12-23 January 2026 inclusive (excluding weekends) from 09.30 to 15.30 daily.

On behalf of Gloucestershire County Council, we advise you that we are due to be conducting essential work at the above location to remove unsafe trees infected with Ash Dieback.

***During this period, 12-23rd January 2026 inclusive, excluding weekends, there will be NO through access from Cirencester to Arlington / Bibury using B4425. Essential Ash Dieback work is to be completed between 1. Cirencester & Sheephouse Lane and 2. Sheephouse Lane and C154 Akeman Street. A rolling closure will be in place with only one cutting area being closed at any one time.
