Be Wildfire Aware

🔥 In this hot, dry weather, the risk of grass and wildfire is much higher than normal.

Wildfires can spread quickly … I’m sure you’ve seen the news of the awful fires in Europe. Currently everything is so dry that even a small spark can quickly develop into a serious fire, putting people, property and our valuable green spaces at risk.

We’ve received reports that fire starting materials have been found in the woods behind Ward Road and Fortey Road. Parents please ensure your children and teens are aware of the danger of playing with fire. It only takes a spark to cause disaster.

The Fire Severity Index remains “very high”, meaning a fire in the open is more likely to take hold and spread under current weather conditions.

Please help reduce the risk of a serious fire:

❌ Do not use disposable barbecues on the playing field or any Council woodland or open space.
❌ Do not light fires or campfires.
🚬 Dispose of cigarettes safely and never drop cigarette ends.
🗑️ Take all litter home with you, especially glass bottles, which can increase the risk of fire.

If you see a fire, call 999 immediately – don’t assume someone else has reported it.
