Cotswold District Council implemented the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) on 1 June 2019. The CIL is a locally set charge on property development, such as new homes and extensions, according to their floor area. The money generated through the levy helps to fund the  infrastructure needed to support new development. The levy can be used to fund a very broad range of facilities, from transport and schools to parks and open spaces. Local authorities can decide what infrastructure is most needed in the local area.

A percentage of CIL is passed to the town or parish council where the development has taken place.

Town and Parish Councils are required to produce an annual report on the CIL monies they have received and spent.
