Calling all green champions

Do you know anyone who goes that extra mile to be environmentally friendly? Is your business or school running a ‘green’ scheme to tackle climate change?  If the answer is yes, we want to hear from you.Gloucestershire County Council has teamed up with local media group Gloucestershire Media to host the 10:10 Awards.

The awards aim to recognise the good work going on in the county to tackle climate change, which in turn will cut carbon and save money.

Nationally, the 10:10 campaign is aimed at cutting your carbon footprint by 10% in 2010 and the local campaign is asking Gloucestershire residents and businesses to sign up to this pledge.
The county’s 10:10 campaign has been running since January and already we’ve heard from dozens of businesses and schools as well as many individuals and families. Now we want to celebrate the good work that is going on and help raise awareness of the need to take action now.

The awards are open to people of all ages and backgrounds, community groups, businesses, families and schools. Whether it’s a special project you’re working on or a change in business practise or even a fundamental change in lifestyle, anything that helps cut carbon or is good for the environment will be considered.

Cllr Chas Fellows, cabinet member for environment and economy, said: “Since we started this campaign, I have been extremely impressed by the stories I’ve heard from people all across the county.
“It is clear that Gloucestershire is taking climate change seriously and I am pleased that Gloucestershire County Council can play a part in that.
“I would encourage you all to think about what’s going on in your life and the people you live and work with, do they deserve recognition for what they’re doing?
“If the answer is yes, there’s still plenty of time to enter someone for an award so please get nominating!”
