Rosemary Verey’s Contribution to 20th Century Gardening

by Margie Hoffnun

After starting as a gardener at Westonbirt Arboretum, Margie Hoffnung took a horticultural degree – and her work experience was with Rosemary Verey at Barnsley House, near Cirencester. She stayed with Rosemary Verey for a decade until the celebrated gardener’s death in 2001, and spent several years at Highgrove as gardener to the Prince of Wales, now King Charles III. She is now Conservation Officer for the Gardens Trust.
