Northleach Historical Society: Surnames & Local History In & Around Gloucestershire

4 February @ 7:30 pm
£5

We all have surnames – but where do they come from, and what do they mean? Dr Simon Draper, an expert on names and place names, shares with us the highlights of his research on surnames from the Middle Ages to the present, including the meaning of some of Gloucestershire’s commonest surnames.

Simon is County Editor for the Victoria County History in Gloucestershire and Assistant Editor for Oxfordshire. Having studied archaeology at university, he is now a professional historian but was formerly a researcher on the Oxford Dictionary of Family Names in Britain and Ireland. He also edits the annual Transactions of the Bristol & Gloucestershire Archaeological Society.

Members free, guests £5.
