Historical Society | Henry VIII & Field of Cloth of Gold

£3Gillian White take us back to 1520 and the most lavish and extravagant diplomatic summit in history – the encounter between Henry VIII and the French King Francis I on The Field of Cloth of Gold near Calais. Arranged by Cardinal Wolsey, the summit involved some 6000 advisers, soldiers, servants and horsemen on each side, housed in tents and pavilions made of silk and gold thread – the famous cloth of gold.
Members free, visitors welcome (£3).
