Historical Society | A Spencer Love Affair

The true story of an eighteenth century love affair between Lady Charlotte Spencer, daughter of the Duke of Marlborough, and an Oxford Vicar, the Reverend Edward Nares, after they had acted together in the newly created private theatre at Blenheim Palace. Following their marriage in 1795 Lady Charlotte was banished from the palace, never to return. This story of forbidden love is told by Allan Ledger, a former guide at Blenheim Palace and author of A History of Eastleach.
