  'Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor' is not the title of the 2011 film - cert 15, but you might well guess what it is! This adaptation of John le Carré's novel is a brilliant study of the disenchantment, compromise and tension of the 1970s spy game. It is a skincrawlingly atmospheric, uncompromisingly cerebral and austere espionage story, adapted for the screen by Peter Straughan and the late Bridget O'Connor. Gary Oldman plays the melancholy agent George Smiley, brought out of his humiliating retirement, in the bleak days of the Cold War, and charged with rooting out a Soviet mole in the upper echelons of the secret service - also starring Colin Firth and Tom Hardy.
