Rural Crime Update & Survey

NRCN-Survey-Logo-400x335Unfortunately there were two break ins in Northleach over the last few weeks. Apparently both houses were unlit. Police advise that properties should be lit using timer lights when empty. Even if you returning at night an unlit house even will attract attention.

In response to concerns from people living and working in rural areas, the National Rural Crime Network has launched the largest ever public survey on rural crime:

The link to the survey is http://www.nationalruralcrimenetwork.net/survey?member=Gloucestershire

They said:  “You don’t need to have been a victim of crime to participate in this survey just simply care enough about rural communities and the freedoms they give us to have your say. We all need to feel safe and secure where we live and this survey will explore what this means in rural Gloucestershire and similar areas across the country. It will give our rural citizens a powerful voice at a time when services are under greater pressure and are typically being drawn into urban areas of seemingly higher demand. Of course this fails to recognise the unique harms caused by crime in rural communities and this should not be overlooked (not just in terms of safety and security but in terms of health and wellbeing).”

Please complete the survey and feel free to pass the link on to others.

Update on Councillor Vacancy

The current Town Council was elected uncontested in May as only 10 people came forward to fill the 11 positions. This means that we have a vacancy to fill.

The new council met last week and consists of 8 previous councillors and two new people, Mrs Amy Hasler and Mr Will Rayner. There has been some interest in the vacancy and councillors agreed to advertise the post over the next few weeks and  invite interested parties to come to the next Town Council meeting on Wednesday 24th Tuesday 16th June (please note change of date) to explain why they would be interested in the role.

If you are interested and would like to know more please look at the website www.northleach.gov.uk which gives a lot of information about the council. Alternatively you can contact me or one of the councillors directly.

Kind regards
Cat Crompton

Clerk
Northleach with Eastington Town Council

Get Set for Children’s Summer Fun Activities!

We have received this information about summer activities in Cotswold District:

Children across the Cotswolds will have a fantastic range of activities on offer this summer many of which are free.

The 2015 ‘Summer off the Streets’ programme provides activities for children of all abilities to have fun, learn some skills and make new friends – there is something for everyone! Look out for new style brochures coming home from school in early July and posters around the area.

Cotswold District Council’s ‘Summer off the Streets’ programme, now in its ninth year, is hugely popular amongst children and families, encompassing a varied programme of workshops (fees payable) together with a whole host of free community fun days and events linking in with national campaigns too including National Play Day and Love Parks Week.

The programme is coordinated by community organisation, World Jungle, who this year were delighted to have received further support from Gloucestershire County Council to run four additional summer holiday activity programmes for children and families to enjoy in Bourton and Northleach, Tetbury, Stow-on-the-Wold and South Cerney.

A week-long programme specifically for Northleach and Bourton will run alongside the central ‘Summer off the Streets’ programme. It will include a combination of free and subsidised indoor and outdoor activities using community venues and local green spaces, each week building up to a free community fun day event. A preview of the summer programme can also be found now on the World Jungle website: www.worldjungle.org.uk.

Funding was also provided under the ‘Children’s Activity Fund’, a grant scheme from Gloucestershire County Council, and with the backing of the local county councillor for the area. Councillor Paul Hodgkinson, said: “I am really pleased to be able to support this project which will hopefully benefit many children and their families across our County. Our underlying aim is to promote the physical and emotional health of children. The events will take place in the heart of our communities, encouraging people to make more use of our local green, public and community spaces too. We are looking forward to a great summer ahead.”

For more information, please contact Ben Ward from World Jungle on 07889 512644, email ben@worldjungle.org.uk or visit www.worldjungle.org.uk .

Help the Old Prison by Completing a Questionnaire

Message from Simon Randall about the Old Prison.

I hope you will forgive this email out of the blue. I am Chairman of the Friends of the Cotswolds which owns the Old Prison. We are applying for a Heritage Lottery Grant to develop a 21st Gallery to house the rural life collection and interpret both the collection, the prison buildings and showcase the Cotswolds in general. As part of our application we really need to hear from anyone familiar with the complex with their views on what we should provide there and what would make them become regular visitors. Accordingly I am attaching to this message a relatively simple questionnaire seeking your views and it would be much appreciated if you could complete it online and return it to me as soon as possible. As an incentive everyone completing the document will be eligible to enter a draw for a £100 shopping voucher.

Meanwhile if you have any queries please do not hesitate to let me know.

Kind regards,
Simon Randall
